ATHENS, TEXAS – Luce Prospect Michael Alvarado has accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Western Oklahoma State University. Alvarado currently plays right field for Athens High School in Texas, which is about 3 hours southeast of Dallas.
Alvarado says he’s worked to prepare himself for college baseball for as long as he can remember. He signed with LPG in August 2017 as a junior and, despite being two hours away from the LPG offices in McKinney, TX, frequently traveled to trainings in the DFW area.
“The travel was all worth it, and it was always something I looked forward to,” Alvarado said. He added that after training with LPG he could see “major improvement.” Further, Alvarado said that he learned valuable lessons from LPG CEO, Jake Luce. “Michael’s work ethic has been off the charts since Day 1,” Luce said. “He trusted in the process, our team at LPG, and was ultimately rewarded with a college baseball scholarship. We couldn’t be happier for him.”
While working with LPG, Alvarado commented that his confidence regarding the college recruitment process “went through the roof.” Additionally, he said that LPG took his strengths and built them up, ultimately resulting in a college baseball scholarship.
Playing baseball in college has been a lifelong goal of Alvarado. His entire family plays sports, including his older sister who currently plays softball at Western Oklahoma State, making his recent commitment even more exciting.
“I want to follow in her footsteps,” Alvarado said. When Alvarado and his sister were both in high school, they would spend their nights working out together with their father. As one of six kids, Alvarado has always had a solid support system from his family.
Aside from working out with his dad and sister, Alvarado has many fond baseball memories with the Athens High School baseball team. He said his favorite moments were when he was “in the dugout with the guys, and cheering on other teammates, and just going crazy, being enthusiastic about the game.”
Alvarado will join his sister, who is on scholarship for softball, at Western Oklahoma State University beginning in the Fall of 2019.
